DARK EUROPA - A COMPILATION OF COLLABORATIVE TRACKS

August 26, 2018 - It is a highlight of a creative person’s life when a project takes on a direction and dimension of its own. This rarely happens in connection with a compilation, but DARK EUROPA is an exception. When Miel Noir approached PANICMACHINE with a cross-border and cross genre collaboration, something special was set in motion. The artists involved were taken on an adventure through a constantly changing, but amazingly cohesive soundscape.

Bands and projects from 9 different countries came together to take the listeners on a sonic journey through the dark music styles of Europe. All 17 tracks on this compilation are collaborative efforts between two different bands/projects.



This compilation offers a wide variety of styles from dark electro in various forms to dark folk, from experimental ambient to dark metal, from industrial to ritual wave and beyond.
The participants include Allerseelen, Chaos Research (project of Marko "Gravehill" Hautamäki from Two Witches), Choronzon, Extreme Chromo (founded by past multi-instrumentalist for NIK TURNER (Hawkwind) projects; with a transfer loan playing Guitar for Alien Sex Fiend, later  founding team Extreme Chromo., Jurica Jelic, Laguz Rune, Love The Ghost, Miel Noir, P. Emerson Williams (past collaborations include Jarboe, John Zewizz, Manes), Phobos Reactor (project of Oliver from Insect Plasma), snowW.Wwhite, several members of TONTTU, Veil of Thorns, and Winterhart (project of Falgalas & Wagner from Dance or Die / Darkness on Demand).

Another chapter of the Nekrognomekon mythos is upon us and we could not be more excited, frightened or puzzled. We can tell you with utmost certainty that since the master recordings of this opus landed on our doorstep at PANICMACHINE Towers that there has been seen nary a gnome in our spacious attic and basement, nor any gnomic tittering in the shadows of the shadowy secret passageways anywhere on our extensive compound and the gremlins seem to shy away as well. This feeling of safety can be yours if you act now!!!

These are the last remaining words (divided in four recognizable sections) of TFG before he was committed to anger management. Was this just another plot by gnomes? Or did he finish the job and volunteer to go? Is the world safe or was there danger in the first place? Madman or unsung hero trying to save mankind - only time will tell... Well, a collection of tracks lands on me like a message from beyond the pale. I have obtained documentation of the dreaded 'Nekrognomicon', the package is a concoction of Finnish folklore, demonology and wild conspiracy theories in a gnomic twist on Lovecraftian terror. Finding the words for the sounds and related reading material is a challenge. Going through this reviewer's mind is "this is madness", repeating like a mantra being transmitted by the Elder Gods.

Whatever the curious who stumble upon the 'Nekrognomicon' think of what they hear in its vibrations and read in its blood-soaked pages, they will find an uncomfortable feeling indwelling their innermost core. This feeling will persist, will grow into strange dreams and disturbing thoughts. Thoughts will become ever more obsessive and elaborate in their twisting insistence and impel to unwholesome researches and ultimately bring the hapless victims back to the 'Nekrognomicon' and into the gnomic clutches of eternal night and madness. When you hear the gnomes and their victims screaming at the gibbous moon, stay inside...

Covering most of the fourth quarter of 2013, the incomparable Jarboe embarks on a tour with P. Emerson Williams on acoustic guitar that will literally encircle the globe. Starting as part of an incredible lineup of artists at Stella Natura: The Light of Ancestral Fires, Sierra Nevada on 9/22 and on to 16 Tons Club, Moscow, Russia 12/21. (New dates added below.)

Jarboe's current performance is melodic and honest emotional vocals with solo acoustic guitar in raw "unplugged" rock based songs. The tour features songs from the 2013 self-released DREAMS cd, as well as songs from the INDEMNITY series - to be released on vinyl in September by Burning World Records (Netherlands).

Jarboe's current set features P. Emerson Williams on acoustic guitar and vocals.

Jarboe draws from a variety of charged sources: growing up in the Mississippi delta, New Orleans street life and Mardi Gras, parents in the FBI, experimental performance, living in NYC's east village in the post no-wave scene, studies in literature and theatre, a history of critically acclaimed recordings and collaboration in Swans and worldwide concerts (clubs, theaters, art galleries, cathedrals, festivals, live radio, TV).

Her voice and music can be at turns innocent, knowing, seductive, & vitriolic - in melodic as well as experimental compositions. A primary objective for Jarboe is to close in on the gap in the audience/performer relationship. Jarboe's agenda over the course of her life has been to fine tune endurance - physical, emotional, and spiritual.

Emerson Williams has been known for densely layered experimental work in the projects Choronzon and Veil of Thorns as well as for adding his unique form of weirdness to releases by Manes and as a core member of kkoagulaa. Williams' music released under his own name created for theatrical productions and silent films are marked by the same enveloping and elaborate arrangements. With the release of Det Er Stille Under Vatnet he strips away everything down to a single acoustic guitar with the occasional touch of hunting horn and chanting. What this shows is that the depth and challenge of Williams' music lies in the compositional element and performance regardless of how big or small the arrangements are. Inspired by the majestic landscape and folk music of Norway where he grew up, P. Emerson Williams wrings a highly evocative atmosphere from his instrument.

Emerson Williams every day than realize it, for much of it is embedded in extensive transmedia projects past and ongoing.
